Right Place, Wrong Time

truzzi-6platesNot unlike this guy, I juggle a lot of plates, although mine are the proverbial kind. Even while managing busy schedules of 6 people, work, blogging and harvesting my crops in time with my Farmville addiction, I always somehow manage to be where I’m supposed to be…early. I’m rarely late. I hate being late.

I also manage all of this in my head. I can remember every practice, appointment and event in my head, but I can’t remember to put them into my iPhone calendar. Whatever works, I suppose, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that, sooner or later, even the best jugglers like me might drop a plate now and then.

With all these plates in the air, I don’t get a lot of “get out, have fun and be social” time. When I heard some former classmates had planned a get-together, I was excited! I marked it in my brain and visualized a little red flag next to it so that I didn’t allow anything to take over my Friday night frolics with some old friends.

I put on a cute outfit and spent a little extra time with the makeup. Even though these people know exactly how old I am, it’s important to look good. Anyway, I primped, spritzed and preened and I was ready to rock.

I walked into the bar and didn’t recognize anyone. I thought this quite weird since this was one of those times I wasn’t early. I scanned the room and saw my friend Ramblin’ Rex who had just texted me asking for my arrival time. He had brought a friend with him, but other than our table for three, there did not appear to be any other people we recognized.

I love Ramblin’ Rex and we could talk for hours, but this was supposed to be a reunion. Where was everyone? Every time someone walked in the door, we activated our brains’ facial recognition feature to no avail. We began to wonder that perhaps the location had changed and somehow we both missed the notification.

Even more strange, I had texted another former classmate and friend, The Big BahUna, just a few hours before this and it sounded to me like he was planning on going. I had told him to let me know for sure and yet, he was mysteriously silent that evening. What is going on here?

Hmmmmmmmm…….

It still was fun. Ramblin Rex and I told some stories and Rex’s friend, who I had heard a lot about but never got the opportunity to meet, became a friend of mine. We had a good time, but decided to call it a night relatively early as we were all dragging a bit from Thanksgiving the day before.

I got home and signed on to Facebook (you know, to check my crops), still wondering how 60+ people (including the organizer) who responded “yes” to an event all decided not to show. I looked at the event listing again and burst into giggles when I realized that the reunion was Saturday night and not Friday night.

Yes, Rex and I were worried that we had the wrong locale for our reunion, but it never dawned on either of us that we were there on the wrong night. I don’t even know how we both thought the reunion was Friday night either because we had no conversations about this reunion prior to that evening.

Right place. Wrong time. Wrong day, actually, but true to form, I was early as usual. A whole day early! The worst part is is that I had already assigned a the red “high priority” flag to something else on Saturday night and couldn’t make the reunion.

I’m thinking that perhaps I should give a calendar a try. I know I won’t, but it sounds like something I should do.

Jessica, I’m sorry to laugh at this situation but it is hilarious ;) Yes, indeed you need to get the Remember the Milk app for iPhone! You made my day with the visual! We’ve all been there.

Deja vu again! I had a date show up a day early in high school. I laughed and thought it was hilarious, but he got back at me. See, I opened the door in pajamas with my hair in curlers. At least you were a day early & not a day late! Too bad you are going to miss it, but you did get a “mini-reunion” … AND a blog post :)

What a funny story! A similar thing happened to me this past summer. When I went to a pool party I was invited to, I was alarmed that no one was at the house when I pulled up. I then looked at the invite and realized that it was the following Saturday! It wasn’t a wasted trip into Flint because I wound up going over to the house of my sister and brother-in-law to hang out.

I tried using a datebook in the 90s, but it isn’t me. I do find that writing notes on the dry erase board attached to my fridge helps me out a lot.

Farmville is so addictive! Do you not think that it’s getting ruined by all the hacks and apps being released, you don’t have to work for anything anymore!
