I know this isn’t a big secret or anything, but sometimes I really think the world has gone insane.
The other day I was watching the news and before the anchor went to a commercial there was a teaser about Michelle Obama wearing “short” shorts. Oh no! Fully expecting a snapshot of our First Lady impersonating a Nair Girl and sporting a pair of cheeky Daisy Dukes, I stayed tuned.
This is the heinous pair of “short shorts” that has sent the media knee deep in the hoopla.
Who wears short shorts?
She wears short shorts.
Please tell me that the general public can see the difference between these two pairs of shorts. If not, eye exams are needed. I’ve included a coupon. Right click and save if need be.
As I write this I’m listening to a Today show segment about how “shocking” it is to see an image of The First Lady step off Air Force One in..(gasp) shorts. Once again Grand Jury definition clarification might be necessary here. After seeing images of people jumping for their lives from the World Trade Center, Oklahoma City Bombings, Columbine, Hurricane Katrina (just to name a few) and the thousands of war images we’ve seen over the past decade or so, are people really shocked to see Mrs. Obama, an attractive, healthy and fit forty-something mom wearing mid-thigh length loose fitting shorts to hike in the Grand Canyon in 100 degree temperatures?
So who wears short shorts? If these are “short shorts” than it seems that I do as well as most of the other 40-something moms I pal around with. I’ll tell you a little secret. I even wear shorter shorts than those sometimes.
Media people, leave Michelle Obama alone. She has right to “bare arms”…and knees.

Those are totally not short shorts – at all. Who really cares?!!? To think – people got PAID to broadcast that all over the news!!

Unfortunately, when in the eye of the “media” there is absolutely NOTHING you can do that is “right.” If she had covered herself completely, they would have called her “frumpy.” I wish the “news media” would just cover the “news.” But, then — what would we rant about???

You’re right, no matter what outfit she had picked, it would have been wrong.
I would consider Michelle’s choice of attire short shorts… if it was 1929! Even if Michelle was wearing short shorts, big deal. This is one of the problems with the 24/7 news cycle in which we live.
By the way, good job of working in the “We Built This City” reference.
In addition to the riduclousness of national discussion of Mrs O’s shorts, has anyone else noticed how unbelievably politically angry people are lately (more so than I ever remember before)? And how convinced so many seem to be that whichever political team they align themselves with is always right and always good and the other is pure wickedness and malicious intent? All I did was respond to someone that I did not believe Obama was evil – EVIL! – and I was torn to shreds for being a “godless liberal” and then excoriated for everything this person suddenly perceived that I must believe simply because I guess I have a whole different definition of ‘evil’. I just do not see how anyone benefits from such division. No one can. I wonder if that approach has ever even once won over someone’s heart.
Did I go too far off topic? Here, let me close by saying: Like you, Jess, I guess I have a different definition of ’short shorts’, too. I am just a little afraid to speak these days…

I love clipping coupons! I save approx. $50 a Month doing this! I suggest getting electric scissors when cutting coupons in bulk!
