The nightmarish ordeal with the Car Wars stalker has ended. Hopefully. While I didn’t actually get to see handcuffs glistening in the moonlight, he was arrested and after a week of peace, I do feel as though the majority of this particular drama may be behind us.
Stalking is a terrifying experience. My family and I no longer have to stay up all night staring out the window awaiting more bleach to be poured in the gas tanks of the cars or fireballs being thrown at my wood porch. I don’t feel like I have to make a daybreak search of the yard hoping to find the supposed poisoned dog treats before the dog does.
Between phone records and a shrewd piece of police work, the offender was identified and arrested. As I began to suspect, it was my oldest daughter’s ex-boyfriend. Believe me, I now understand arranged marriages. I have three teenaged daughters and putting the boyfriends together collectively, this one was, by far, my favorite of them all. He was extremely polite, a good conversationalist and an A student. He actually left here at 7:00 one evening because he had “homework to do” and he is a talented athlete with a very promising future. Charming, one might even say, but then again, people used that word with Ted Bundy, too.
I liked him a lot which leads me to believe that something is seriously amiss with my sociopathic radar detector. Between my ex-husband, this kid and Fast Fingers, I’m seriously doubting if I even have a sociopathic radar detector because these people just keep on surprising me.
We do have an upcoming court date and since he already confessed, I expect the charges to be plea bargained and hopefully, this will all be settled in one court appearance and we can all move on with our lives and I can move on to my next mystery…how am I supposed to get to my family reunion at the beach today with two broken toes when I can barely hobble across my living room floor? YEEEE-ouch.
