On Tuesday mornings, the first thing I usually do is take a crack at Malcolm’s Trivia Game. This week, he put it up early so I decided to follow my friend Shelly’s ritual and have coffee on the porch. The way she describes it, it always sounds so peaceful and I could use some of that! Damien is always talking about de-stressing and it sounded like a good idea.
At first my eyes were drawn to a brightly yellow colored bird bouncing on the front lawn and I watched it as it jumped around to the side of the house where I had planted some sunflower seeds. There I saw another yellow surprise…my first sunflower!
Sunflower, Good Mornin'!
I have a total of ten sunflower plants, but this is the first one to bloom. Forget the coffee, now I was starting to think like my friend Thorne, and wanted to take some cool pictures of flowers just like she does.
I took this one of my lilies, which, despite my interference, are in full bloom and gorgeous.
Razzle Dazzle 'Em!
The red ones are called “Razzle Dazzle” and they are indeed razzle dazzling Hysteria Lane. I’ve never had anyone comment on my gardening until this year. I also have this big patch of daisies. Someone told me daisies are weeds, which explains why I’ve grown them so successfully I suppose, but I like their cheerfulness.
Daisy, Daisy, Give Me Your Answer True
I also grew these Bachelor’s Buttons.
Bachelor's Buttons
Like most other bachelors I know, they’re a little too wild for my tastes. I like the color now that the flowers have bloomed, but the plants look like weeds. I’m not going to plant these again next year. If I want “wild”, I’ll stick with these wildflowers, which also may or may not be weeds. I’ve lost track, sorry.
Wildflowers or Weeds? Who knows?
Earlier this spring, I decided to plant a fruit and vegetable garden like Crystal did. I’ve never seen hers, but I have no doubt it’s more successful than mine. All that grew are these two kohlrabi plants (Kitty’s favorite! haha!)…
Kohlrabi
And these two lettuce plants that I’m not really sure I want to eat.
Lettuce of some kind
I’m sure JW (Mr. Rock Chick) will spin them into something delicious as he always does. I’ll let you in on a little secret. JW is joining the blogosphere! That’s right, I think he is secretly envious of my sister’s foodie blog and wants his own or at least one in collaboration with me. After all, he does need time to cook!
Don’t worry, I won’t be giving anyone any cooking tips, but I’ll let you know when it’s live. Believe me, his cooking razzle dazzles people much more than my red lilies do!

Lovely flower photos…but what got me really excited is the Kohlrabi! Impossible to get in the UK. So you’ve inspired me – I shall plant some as well

bim´s last blog ..bloom
I can’t say I’m a big kohlrabi fan myself, but my kids love it! We planted a whole bunch of them, but only the two survived. Next year I’m going to build a box and fill it with better dirt for my veggie garden. I think that’s my problem.
You are awesome (I love your little comment on the bachelor buttons, lol). I am jealous of your garden, however, if any of the shrubbery needs a trim, I have my trusty hedge trimmers. Be sure to make posies and enjoy those inside!
hehe on the Bachelor’s Buttons. I couldn’t resist. They really are kind of unruly and wild! They didn’t look that way on the seed packet! I have an entire wall of bushes along the fence at the rear of the house! Anytime you want to visit with your new trimmers, you are more than welcome!!
Kohlrabi looks like that ABOVE ground? Crazy. What a flower bonanza you have there, Jess. I am impressed. Looking forward to JW’s food blog, yes I am!

I was kind of surprised by the kohlrabi, too. I thought it would be underground like a carrot! Who knew? He and I are working on an “actually edible egg salad” post. I know you don’t like it and I don’t like any egg salad other than Grandma A’s, which is delicious!! We thought he’d start along the how to boil water lines
First, thanks for pimping my weekly trivia game. Although I don’t know jack about flowers, those are some cool photos. I had never even heard of a bachelor’s button, at least I don’t recall hearing about them. By the way, nice line about wild bachelors.
