I have been on a roll of JessiCATastrophes ever since January of 2007 when an acquaintance of mine gave me “The Evil Eye“. Of course, I had heard of the evil eye, but had never actually witnessed it before that time. Because I am sane, I didn’t follow my ex-husband’s advice for breaking this curse by having some healer rub eggs all over my body, but believe me, I can’t say that I haven’t considered doing just that over the last two and half years. These years have been what some might call “doozies“.
Yesterday, though, something happened. I was wishing for Venus to move into Jupiter or whatever it is that changes horoscopes from bad to good and it must have happened because the never ending stream of catastrophes stopped and good things started to happen.
My daughter called into a radio show and got through and won tickets to see The Black Eyed Peas (eyes? coincidence?) today at the always fun B96 Summerbash!
I’m more than a little envious, because I am a huge Fergie fan and I even wear her shoes when I’m out rock chicking! See? The shoes are as fabulous as she is!
But, wait! There’s MORE!
Just a short time after that, I checked my email and I saw a comment from Jessica Morris of Life As I See It letting me know that I had won a contest she was running on her blog! Way cool! I was so excited about my luck changing that I simply could not sleep!
Insomnia normally isn’t on my fun list, but my friend, Damien Riley is the author of quite a few terrific blogs, two of which are Postcards From The Funny Farm and Damien At The Speed Of Life. Damien also hosts a radio show on Friday nights on Blog Talk Radio and because of the time difference from Chicago and CA, I am usually asleep when he’s live. Last night I was wide awake and got the opportunity to give the show a call and speak to Damien live on the air. It was really cool and here is a copy of the broadcast if you’d like to listen to it.
If all that wasn’t enough, this morning I was playing around on Twitter and I got a message from Simon van Kempen of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of NYC. I LOVE my housewives (and their husbands), real and desperate, and this was an awesome treat. Look!
My tweet from Simon of The Real Housewives of NYC!
BBFN to you, too, Simon!
Since I’m on a roll, I have to go now to research some way to please Mother Nature. Today is my kids’ graduation parties and it’s pouring and 55 degrees in Chicago. I know it always rains on all our major events, but c’mon. It’s mid-June and I’m still wearing a sweater. There must be a fix for this. Hopefully, it won’t involve eggs, eyes or voodoo healers because I just don’t know where to find one of those.

Glad to hear things are looking up for you! I would say I’m jealous of the Black Eyed Peas concert, but really, I am not LOL – I LOVE listening to Kidd Kraddick in the morning, but it’s on a station that plays music I don’t typically care for (I can think of only a few songs on the station that I like). But…I can’t EVER get “Boom Boom Pow” out of my head. But, judging from the fact that she actually called the station to try to win the tickets, I’m guessing she’s a fan…so YAY for her!
And – I’m gonna check out that broadcast. I’ve already subscribed to the podcast and downloaded it to my phone so I can listen to it at my leisure
Dustin-I’m more of a Fergie solo fan that a Black Eyed Peas fan, I guess, but this was an all day music event. Also appearing on the stage were Kelly Clarkson, LMFAO, Akon, Cascada and Flo Rida. Can’t say I would have gone other than to see The BEP, but the kids had a great time! Next week you have to call into Damien’s radio show!

BBFN? Bye bye for now I’m assuming? Dang … you got a BBFN from a reality show star. That kicks my little garage cast out the window
Seriously though, I really enjoyed the short call. I should have you on sometime when we can talk longer … an interview? Hmmmmm. I see possibilities here. Have your people talk to my people he he he.
I want your readers who haven’t heard your voice to know you have a voice that really gives your online personality justice. You are such a supportive bloggy friend and I just want to reiterate that. Thank you again, and congratulations for all the luck that’s going on in your life!
Damien´s last blog ..The Other Side of Forty – New Episode of my Podcast
Damien-I think it’s bye bye for now. Can’t imagine what else it would be! LOL Nah, you’re little garage cast is just fine! I’d be glad to do your show anytime, but “my people” are 4 teenagers so I’d really prefer your people speak directly to me
My mom says my voice sounds like Minnie Mouse. A lot of the time the callers think they got one of my kids instead of me. Ahhhh, it keeps me youthful, right!!!–Jessica
I spent the last hour or so working on my lawn outside and listened to Damien’s podcast (on my fancy schmancy phone). Somehow (and I had not yet read Damien’s comment here) when he said that he had a caller (on the most recent broadcast) I just KNEW it was going to be Jessica the Rock Chick! And I agree with Damien, your voice emphasizes your online persona (you are REAL! lol) – Not only that (and I think you could potentially say the same if you heard my voice) but somehow I didn’t anticipate the “northern” accent! It kinda took me by surprise LOL.
Anyway…great broadcast so far and it was good getting to hear both of you!
Dustin- you crack me up! I am real, indeed! If I’m not, whoever is impersonating me is doing a lot of slacking off and leaving me to do all the work
That’s not just any “northern” accent you’re hearing, that is definitely a Chi-CAAAH-go twang. People seem to be able to pinpoint me as a Chicagoan wherever I go. I’m sure it’s that flattened vowel sound thing and it’s been pointed out to me that I turn one syllable words into two by adding a dipthong sound to the vowels. Like the word “ham” becomes ha-um. (which is why my sister, Pa-um, can’t stand the way people pronounce her name so she goes by Pamela! LOL) For some reason I’ve noticed the accent sounds more pronounced on females, especially when you have a higher pitched voice like I do. We also have a speech pattern here that I have never noticed anywhere else and it’s odd. In regards to the names of grocery stores, Chicagoans will either put the word “the” in front of the store name, as in “I’m going to the Jewel” instead of I”m going to Jewel” or they will pluralize the name of the store. Instead of “I’m going to Aldi” it becomes “I’m going to Aldis”. I have no idea why. What’s really funny is that my kids and my husband, who were not actually raised in the city, but in a suburb, do not do these things. My accent is much more pronounced than theirs and it’s a difference of about 5 miles tops. –Jessica
That is SOOOO cool she won tickets!
Jessica´s last blog ..Right Now, This Moment
Jessica, yes, she was thrilled! It’s big music event and Kelly Clarkson and a bunch of other groups (none I care for, but my daughter likes them) in addition to The Black Eyed Peas just kept performing one after the other all day long. I would have loved to see Fergie! I know she’s a little naughty but there’s something about her as a performer I just really like!- Jessica
Just be sure to stay away from the Evil Eye!
